How To Make Goat Cheese At Home

Goat cheese is low fat, low calories and more digestive than cow's milk cheese. But the problem is that it is hard to find goat milk cheese in the market. If you have a goat or number of goats, you can make goat cheese at home. Nothing special is need you can find all the ingredients in your kitchen.

Step 1

You need a half gallon of fresh goat milk. If you'll not find fresh goat milk in the supermarket then you can find it from a farm or market.

Two teaspoon of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar or two tablets of rennin to coagulate the cheese. Rennin should be your first choice if not then lemon juice or vinegar is good.

A cheesecloth to separate the curds from whey

Step 2

Heat the goat milk in a stainless steel pot to 190F. Crush rennin tablet, dissolved in half cup of water and add in goat milk or alternatively you can add two teaspoon of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. If curds are not formed in 10 seconds after the addition of coagulant, slowly add some more lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. The curd should resemble like balls of cottage cheese.

Step 3

Separate the curds from whey using cheesecloth and tightly tie the cloth at the top and set up for couple of hours to drain out the whey. Now you have delicious cheese curd in the cheese cloth and whey. Feed the whey to the dogs or drain it away. Store the cheese curds in the fridge. You can use it as it is or add more herbs or seasonings or use as an ingredient in number of delicious recipes.
